Every bowhunter should invest in bow targets.
Bowhunting is far and away the most challenging form of hunting. Let’s face it, rifles and shotguns were invented to make it easier for people to hunt, so opting to use a bow instead of a firearm is like going back in time. It’s saying to yourself, “Yeah, there’s an easier way to do this, but I like the challenge of using a bow.” Why is bowhunting so difficult? For one thing, arrows don’t travel nearly as far as bullets, so the person hunting has to get much closer to the animal before taking the shot. Secondly, it’s more difficult to aim a bow and fire an arrow accurately, which is why most bowhunters practice a great deal more than other types of hunters.
If you want to be a successful bowhunter who’s able to hit an animal in the right spot from the right distance, you’re going to want to invest in bow targets. Like anything, the more you practice shooting a bow, the better you’re going to get at it. If you can consistently hit the same part on a target over and over again, then there’s a pretty good chance that when you come across an animal in the wild, you’re going to be able to make the shot. If the purpose of hunting is to actually come home with an animal, then you’re going to need to practice to make it happen.
Understanding that you should be investing in bow targets is one thing, but figuring out which target to purchase is another. There are a lot of different bow targets out there for bowhunters to choose from. You can go with a standard target that’s essentially just a bullseye, or you could purchase a target that’s shaped like an animal. If you decide to go with a target that’s shaped like an animal because you think it’s more realistic and therefore will be able to help you practice more, your next decision is going to be whether or not to purchase a 3D target. There are clear benefits to 3D targets, but there are some benefits to choosing a 2D target as well. They both look incredibly lifelike, but the 2D targets often work just as well but cost a bit less money. In the end it’s up to you which target you choose, just know that there are options out there for you to select from.
As you can see, there are lots of choices you can make when it comes to bow hunting targeting. Just remember that it’s important to always be safe, so make sure you put something behind the target to stop the arrows if you shoot an errant shot. All the equipment you’ll need, and then some, can be found at target shops like Solo Targets.
